In Denver spring is beginning to make its presence known. Trees are budding, flowers are starting to bloom, and the world is emerging from winter's hibernation. What's happening in Italy? Preparations are in high gear for the Easter holidays. The days immediately before Easter typically include solemn processions and services, which culminate in celebratory Easter services. On May 1st thousands of pilgrims are expected in Rome to attend the beatification ceremony of John Paul II. Pope Benedict XVI will preside over this historical event. According to the Vatican newspaper, it's the first time in more than a thousand years that a pope will have beatified his immediate predecessor. The Italian Institute is also preparing for a few noteworthy events ranging from a special pizza making demonstration to our Parliamo Italiano potluck. Please take a few minutes to review the information below. We hope to see you at one or more of these special events. Sincerely, Maria Chiacchio. |
