Welcome to Sorrento, the Magic Land!
A unique resort town, Sorrento lines the cliffs that look over the water to Naples and Mount Vesuvius. According to Greek Legend, the Sirens, mythical provocateurs of pure voice and dodgy intent, lurked in these parts. Presumed to be of Greek origin and much loved by the Romans as a summer retreat, Sorrento was rediscovered by 18th-century Grand Tourists. The town has its own song Torna a Surriento (Come back to Sorrento) in which a young lover is begged to return to the land of love. Nearly a century after the song was written, Sorrento’s orange and lemon groves, and its seductive dark blue sea still work their magic.
