"Italian in one year" Project

Objective
The objective is to offer an intensive Italian course which allows students to develop the capability of learning the Italian language throughout the year.

Target audience
Addressed to those who desire to learn the Italian language intensively, the course is aimed to those who are in their early stages, but they have the time and concentration for a strong and progressive offer of study. For students who already have a knowledge of some elements of the Italian language and desire to reach a less fragmented understanding and knowledge level.

Type of commitment
The offer addresses particularly motivated people with an essential knowledge of (English) grammar for a comparative linguistic approach, willing to devote part of their weekend to the course (2 hours on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 11:30 am or 2 hours Tuesdays from 7 pm to 9 pm). For certain months of the year (September – October – November, January – February – March, April – May), students will develop a particularly intensive personal study, during the week studying the homework, also participating in optional conversational classes in December. Then the students will resume all the work in preparation for the evaluation test. Each passage from one stage to the next involves passing an assessment test for each cycle as a necessary condition of the course. The experience ends with the opportunity to travel to Italy for one/two weeks.

Teachers
In addition to the native language teachers who may alternate during classes, we will provide short presentations and conference calls of native language teachers resident in Italy. For those interested, a more specific online tutoring activity will be offered to support personal study.

Course Materials
For teaching and linguistic approach reasons, the reference book is "Progetto Italiano".

Working plan and contents
Based on the teaching offer of the adopted book, within the three cycles of lessons it is expected to develop 30 meetings and the following content outline:

  • September – October – December: Introductory lesson, chapters 1-5, final test
  • January – February – March: Introductory lesson, chapters 6-10, final test
  • April – May: Introductory lesson, chapters 11-14, final test

Student notebook All additional documentation alongside the adopted book that is necessary to the development of the course offer, and particularly the delivery and the return of personal works and exercises, provides the Italian Institute network the ability to form a personal file and computer notebook for each student. The correction of the materials is sent to an evaluation committee composed of Italian teachers, if the materials are handed in on time.

At the end of the classes of the first trimester, two lectures on Italian culture will be organized on Saturday December 4th and on Saturday December 11th , from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. open to all interested. The subjects will be on the culture and the art of specific Italian regions entitled, "The enogastronomic tour of Italy" and a "Tour of Tuscan provinces". After each lecture, a wine and food tasting of the typical products from the region and photographic exhibitions of Italian provinces will be available.
