Intermediate (A2)
Overview
The intermediate level is divided into four courses (201, 202, 203 and 204). Classes for each course meet once a week over a period of 11 weeks. It will take one year and approximately 90 hours of study (60 hours in the classroom and approximately 40 minutes at home per/week) to complete all four intermediate-level courses and their accompanying text, Espresso 2.

Italian 201

Course Description
After completing Italian 201, students will be able to:
- speak and write about members of their family
- talk about their memories from childhood
- discuss things they used to do in the past
- describe the typical Italian family
- express their opinions in favor or against a given topic
At the grammatical level, students will be able to use:
- possessive adjectives, relative superlatives, reflexive verbs in the simple past tense, imperfect verb tense

Italian 202

Course Description
After completing Italian 202, students will be able to:
- describe the physical aspect of others
- formulate hypotheses
- make, accept and refuse invitations
- write letters and other forms of personal correspondence
- read narrative texts
At the grammatical level, students will be able to use:
- verbs in the transitive and intransitive forms, present conditional tense, the gerund, direct pronouns in the past tense, pronouns with the infinitive, relative pronouns

Italian 203

Course Description
After completing Italian 203, students will be able to:
- give advice to others
- express appreciation or disgust with respect to food
- describe your personal health
- talk about physical activity and sports
- persuade others to do something
At the grammatical level, students will be able to use:
- imperative in the formal and informal forms, pronouns with the imperative, irregular comparative forms

Italian 204

Course Description
After completing Italian 204, students will be able to:
- talk about future projects
- write a resume and a cover letter
- discuss interests in details
- express uncertainties, hopes and opinions
- read and understand newspaper articles
At the grammatical level, students will be able to use:
- simple future tense, verbs that take the direct and indirect objects, 'ne', the present tense subjunctive form, the simple past tense with modal verbs
